  Introduction Of Characters

  KING VIKRAMAJIT

King of Vidarbh, and a greatest warrior who is famous for not losing even a single duel. Even Demon King 'Markesh' has lost multiple times to King Vikramajit in combat. Having being unsuccessful in an honorable fight, Markesh teamed up with 'Ambrish', King of 'Vallabhgadh'. Together they tried to ambush Vikramajit, which resulted in death of his wife 'Chitrlekha' (Queen of Vidarbh) and he was subsequently cursed by Sage 'Shankracharya'.

  TEJASVI

The eldest son of Vikramajit, and an excellent archer. Separated from his father for sixteen years, after that when he got to know about his mother's death, he swore an oath of exile, until the destruction of Demon Lord 'Markesh'. He faced Markesh for the first time when he abducted 'Suvarna' (Princess of Balishthgadh) on the occasion of her marriage. According to Sage 'Shankracharya', he is prophesized to kill Markesh, 'The Demon King'.

  MAHABALI VAKRBAAHU

He remained unconscious in Patallok for thirty years, until he was rescued by Suryam. Thereafter he convinced Suryam that he'll be with him, and obey his orders until he is alive. His strength is almost immeasurable (about thousands of elephants), he is the demon with lots of secrets in his past. But due to a curse, he lost his memories. He was the only demon who fought from the side of Dharma in the five days war among Humans, Demons and Nagas.

But after the demise of the Demon King 'Markesh', when Vakrbaahu got back to his memories, a truth revealed, due to which all victorious warriors dropped their weapons with guilt.

  YUGANDHAR

  LEADER OF SERPENTS (NAGAS)

Son of Vikramajit and Serpent Princess 'Kanishka', and also the current Serpent King. He is blessed by a boon, that as long as he goes into battle with his War-Ave (a gift from Dev Sheshnag-the Serpent god) no one will be able defeat him. He played a pivotal role in defeating Markesh at Patallok. When Tejasvi, Akhand, Suryam were helpless while facing Markesh with his new born powers, 'Suvarya' lover of Naagraj Yugandhar sacrificed her life willingly, which rescued Yugandhar from the trap of veteran mentor of demons 'Bhairavnath'. Finally he entered in the battlefield and shove back the Demon King (who became four times powerful than earlier) with his fierce attack. But this victory came at a heavy cost for Yugandhar,i.e. death of 'Suvarya'. He had to see Suvarya die in front of his own eyes, helpless, as her sacrifice was essential to defeat Markesh (the Demon King)

  MAHABALI AKHAND

Son of King Vikramajit's youngest brother 'Bhanusen', and the crown prince of Vidarbh. There are rumors about his strength (which is also immeasurable) is a boon granted by Vakrbaahu. When in Patallok, Vakrbaahu was about to kill 'Suryam', he rushed to save his younger brother and challenged Vakrbaahu for a duel. After a fierce fight, Vakrbaahu realized that Suryam was the cause of his freedom, thereafter he withdraws from the fight. Akhand loves his brother Suryam more than his own life, and he could not tolerate his younger brother being hurt, even a little.

  MARKESH THE DEMON KING

He have the divine 'Vijaydhanusha' ('Victor's bow), but he can't access it's power. To avenge his wife as well as his siblings, Trikaal Bhairav and Dudumbhi, he attacked King Vikramajit several times, but was defeated everytime. Markesh was blessed with a boon, that no mortal weapon of the world would be able to kill him. He proved himself capable and received the divine Vijaydhanusha from his ancestor Lord Mahabali. But because of his sins that divine bow refused to accept him.

But the question is that, whether the reason of hostility between Vikramajit and Markesh is just the death of his brothers? Is Markesh is really an evil? Or there is something else hidden behind in the past

Basically this story is limited to the eventual death of Markesh 'The Demon King'. But to know about his origin, that once there was a time when he was on the side of Dharma, and his heart was pure and filled with love of his wife. Seeing this, his ancestor King Bali helped him to get the divine 'VijayDhanush', because the person who holds this bow, should be of pure heart.

The positive side of Markesh 'The Demon King' will be told in RANKSHETRAM-2.

  Something to say...

There are many famous mythological stories in our India. But there were two epics which lead a huge impact on the history of India. One is the demise of the Demon King Ravana by Lord Rama in Tretayuga. And another one is the civil war named Mahabharata among the Bharatvanshis, which changed the whole era.

The story of 'Rankshetram' is of in between the time period of these two epic stories. The time period when our country wasn't named Bharatvarsh. Some historians named it as Jambudweep, and some calls it as the land of Aaryas, Aaryavart. This is the story of whole Aaryavart.

This mythological fiction is not about any special warrior, it's about an era.

This is the story of two epic wars in Dwaparyuga.

The five days war among Humans, Demons and Nagas. This lead to huge impact on the existence of the demons.

And the second war, which not only lead to rise of Bharatvanshis, but established rule of peace and justice too.

It was not an easy journey of writing this fiction. It all started seven years before. Of course, I was inspired by the epic story of Mahabharata, which is very close to my heart.

From the beginning, I was having interest to know about the mythological characters. My maternal grandfather 'Mr. Pahuari Sharan Sriastava' use to tell me stories of those warriors.

Firstly, I worked on its manuscript for two months. I was not satisfied with that script, but after that also I continued writing, which improved the level of my writing. But because of my studies I had to leave this in between.

After some years I got admission in 'D.M.E.T' Kolkata. When I reached 2nd year of engineering, then I felt that I can restart my work again. I started writing once again with the previous manuscript in my mind. After writing it's first part, it was becoming difficult for me to decide the title of the story. Then one of my friend 'Aditya Narayan Sarkar' read the story and titled it as 'Rankshetram.'

I am really very grateful to my father, 'Mr. Ramesh Chandra Srivastava' who helped me a lot in the process of publishing. I also want to thank my mother 'Mrs. Anju Srivastava' and elder brother 'Harsh Chandra'.

This book was published in 2016 through 'Notion Press'. And now it is to be published by 'Anjuman Prakashan'.

I would like thank 'Anjuman Prakashan' whose support and suggestion brought lots of improvements in my writing. And I really appreciate their editing work.

I would also like to thank my senior cadets Saurabh Upadhyay and Khem Chand Khatri sir.

And at last I would like to thank my friends Tathagat gupta, Abhinav Srivastava, Vikas Rai, Vikas Singh, Rashmi Pandey, Ayushi Chitransh. Because this was not possible without their support.

  The Demon's Raid

Two youngsters were running towards the Lahauli village of Vidarbh. Fear on their faces were capped, they both soon reach other villagers and warned them.

'Run, Run for your life. The troops of Balishtgadh are approaching towards our village'.

From a distance, thousands of soldiers of Balishthgadh were visible to them.

Seeing this, One thousand soldiers appointed for security of that village (Lahouli) came forward to protect the villagers. The commander of the security soldiers ordered.

'Before these enemy troops harm our villagers, information of this raid, must be ferried to our King 'Vikramajit' as soon as possible.'

Those two young men who had come to warn the villagers, came forward and requested to head of the security of Vidarbh.

'You protect the villagers, please, sir soldier. We two brothers will reach our King as soon as possible, and will beg for his help.'

'Ok fine, you go with our best breed horses. Till then we would face this army.' The commander of security soldiers provided best breed horses to both of the youngsters, and order them to proceed.

'Yo majesty, Yo majesty. Enemy troops invaded the state. We came from Lahouli village, they are in millions. Till now, may war have been started among the security guards and that army.' Both villagers came in front of King 'Vikramajit' of 'Vidarbh', requesting for protection.

'Army chief, Gajendra.' Furious Vikramajit stood up from his throne

'Your honour, my lord'. Vidarbha's army chief stood up from his seat.

'This is how your security system works? Enemy troops crossed our border, and till now you don't have any information regarding this situation.'

'Sorry to say my lord. But at Lahouli village from where these villagers are claiming they come from. There are four specific snoops have been appointed, if large number of Army is coming, we would have got the information earlier.'

'Be silent Gajendra. Must be Balishtgadh troops invaded us, perhaps even after repeated defeats, there longing for divine gem has yet not finished.'

'But my lord, it may also be a deception.'

Then suddenly almost fifty residents of the village Lahouli, entered the court of Vidarbh and cried for help.

'So what do you think you Gajendra, all of them are lieing? 'Bhanusen' and 'Veersen', these two brothers of mine, have capability to resist a huge army on their own.'

'That's a honor for us, my lord.' Veersen stood up from his place and said.
